Jim Atkinson has been active in New Jersey’s cultural community for more than a decade and has been involved in the Discover Jersey Arts program since its early days of research and development. As Program Manager he is responsible for the overall development of the project and oversees the implementation of its many initiatives. He currently serves on several committees dedicated to enhancing cultural participation in the region including the Arts, Cultural Heritage & Tourism Sector of the New Jersey Broadband Initiative; Celebrate New Jersey Way Finding Committee; and the Promotions and Awareness Committee of the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia.
Prior to coming to New Jersey, Jim was a fixture of the Philadelphia arts and music scene having worked at WXPN-FM Public Radio, The Theatre of Living Arts (Electric Factory Concerts), and Black Irish Productions during which time he was involved a variety of major events including the Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema, Penn’s Landing’s Singer-Songwriter Weekend, Lollapalooza '93 Tour and Philadelphia AIDS Walk.
Jim holds a BA in Communications from Arcadia University and is a graduate of the Antonelli Institute of Art. He loves to travel and is an avid film buff with a weakness for good wine. He currently lives with his wife Heather in Haddon Township, NJ.
Karin Jervert is the newest member of Discover Jersey Arts team, however she has been an active member of New Jersey’s cultural community for years. As Marketing & Communications Associate, she will be managing content on JerseyArts.com, coordinating many of the site’s new media initiatives, and assisting with the implementation of the program’s varied campaigns aimed at increasing participation in the arts.
She began her career as the Associate Director of the Puffin Foundation's Cultural Forum in Teaneck, NJ. From there she moved on to Rutgers University to help direct the public relations efforts for Art Without Borders, an online social networking platform for third world artists. Most recently she served as the Communications Director for the Monmouth County Arts Council.
Karin holds a BA in Communications from Rutgers University. An amateur documentary film maker and life long artist, she is a New Jersey native who loves spending time at the shore and reluctantly admits to being a social networking junkie.
Cynthia Barthole started her career as an intern and Box Office Assistant at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ. As Membership Coordinator for the Discover Jersey Arts program, Cynthia is in charge of processing membership requests, coordinating the Jersey Arts List Cooperative, JerseyArts.com Online Intern Fair and DJA Street Team.
Cynthia is a graduate of Mercyhurst College, holding a BA in Dance, and is currently enrolled at Drexel University as a candidate for an MS in Arts Administration. Her hobbies include traveling, spending time with friends, yoga, and writing critical analysis papers on a plethora of issues in today’s arts world (for now). She currently resides part-time at the Jersey Shore and part-time in South Jersey.
